05 Jul Warrenpoint , County Down
Warrenpoint is a minor port at the head of Carlingford Lough and is a hidden gem well worth a visit on your tours of Ireland. There is a passenger ferry from Warrenpoint to Omeath in the Republic of Ireland. Inland from Warrenpoint is Rostrevor Park which is full of trees and has a spectacular panoramic view over Carlingford Lough.
Heading North from hear you will reach the heart of the Mourne Mountains , between Spelga Dam and the small village of Attical. The heart of the Mountains is enclosed by a 7ft high stone wall , and is called the Winderness. The only way across is on foot ; heathery plateau rising to bare , granite mountain , probably the best walking country anywhere in Ireland and is worth a wee look on any tour.
