Castle Tioram Ardnamurchan

This castle is in Inverness-shire, Scotland, and the name is sometimes spelt “Tioram”.

It’s definitely worth a visit on any tours of Scotland.

 

It was built in the early 13th Century on a site of extraordinary scenic splendour.

The castle is on a rocky hill on Loch Moidart, and becomes an island at high tide.

It was the ancient seat of the MacDonald’s.

 

The original walls are eight feet thick, and thirty feet high.

Around 1600 a range of domestic buildings were erected.

They also added a high tower.

 

The castle has an interesting military history.

There is also an interesting marital history involving Lady Grange around 1732.
