Castlepollard, County Westmeath

Tully-Nally-Castle 03
This is an attractive small village in County Westmeath.

The village is laid out English style, around a green.

It is popular on tours of Ireland for fishing.

There is a tiny village called Fore nearby.

Fore stands among a group of ecclesiastical ruins.

There is a graveyard beside the road from Castlepollard.

This contains a 7th Century church – Saint Fechins.

In the sloping field above is an ancient tower.

This was once inhabited by a hermit.

There is also a mausoleum erected in the last century by the Greville-Nugent family.

In the middle of the valley there is a 13th Century Benedictine Abbey in the style of a Norman castle.

The ruins and their setting are well worth visiting.

These are real hidden gems.

Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours can take you to these and more.
