This is a great hidden gem for any tours of Scotland.
It has the ruins of two Iron Age forts.
Caterthun at Menmuir is an oval fort 500 feet by 220 feet in size.
It is within the most imposing ruined wall in all of Britain.
The wall may have been 40 feet thick originally.
It is known as White Caterthun.
Nearby Brown Caterthun contains six lines of defence.
The innermost is very ruinous, enclosing 260 feet by 200 feet.
Thereafter you find a heavy rampart or even wall with nine entrances, two ramparts, and a ditch.
The total enclosure is 1,000 feet by 900 feet.
This suggests three separate structural phases.
