Coole Park , County Galway

Coole Park , County Galway

Southeast of Galway City lies the lovely forest park , this was the former home of Lady Augusta Gregory and served as a favourite retreat for many of the leading writers of the 19th and 20th century literary and dramatic revival in Ireland , including W. B. Yeats , who preserved its beauties forever in his poetry.

The autobiography tree is where many of Lady Gregory’s guests carved their names. Initials still legible include JBY and WBY (Jack and William B. Yeats) and GBS (George Bernard Shaw).

Coole Park is a real hidden gem and worth a visit on your tours of Ireland.
