Balmoral Castle

Crathie, Aberdeenshire

This is a very small hamlet in Aberdeenshire.

It is worth visiting on any tours of Scotland as it is the nearest populated place to Balmoral Castle.

Balmoral Castle is the Scottish home for the Royal Family.

Therefore, the family, and in particular Queen Elizabeth the Second, were, and are, known to attend the local parish church.

What is probably the best view of Balmoral Castle can be obtained from the road that climbs from the hill to the North of Crathie.

That view itself is worth visiting.

It’s also interesting to see the monument to John Brown.

This was erected by Queen Victoria in memory to her servant.

He provided a lot of support for the Queen after the death of her husband, Prince Albert.

Queen Victoria wrote this about John Brown “Perhaps never in history was there so strong and true an attachment, so warm and loving a friendship between the sovereign and servant”
