Dingle , County Kerry

The town , which served as a vital port for trade with Spain and was walled during Elizabethan times , has many claims to fame. Among them is its use as a location for the film Ryan’s Daughter. It was also ‘nearly’ famous as a safe haven for Marie Antoinette. A Count Rice , who owned a house here , prepared it to receive the former French Queen following a bid to rescue her from prison. According to tradition , however , she refused to travel here.
