Doune Castle, By Andrew Shiva / Wikipedia

Doune, Stirling

This small town was once famous for the manufacture of pistols.

The trade began in 1645 by Robert Caddell.

But the castle is what is worth seeing on any tours of Scotland.

It is one of the best-preserved Medieval castles in Scotland.

It dates from the 14t Century.

The castle stands on the left bank of the River Teith.

As it stands today the castle is unfinished.

You can see the strongly fortified keep, but the residential apartments were never built.

The castle was last used in 1746.
