Dunblane, Stirling

Dunblane, Stirling

This is a small town near Stirling which is a good stop on any tours of Scotland.

We visit when we have clients staying at the wonderful Cromlix Hotel (owned by the tennis player Andy Murray).

That is a superb hotel and we strongly recommend it.

Dunblane is built on the banks of the Allan Water, which is a tributary of the River Forth.

The 16th century single arch bridge is very quaint.

Also check out the 13th century Cathedral of Dunblane.

It has been partly restored.

Carved figures on the pulpit in the nave symbolize the history of the church.

They represent five denominations that have used the buildings or site over the past 1,000 years, and more!

The lower storeys of the tower are the oldest parts of the cathedral, dating from around 1100.

The full Gothic flowering did not take place until the middle of the 13th century, under the watch of Bishop Clement.
