15 Mar Fethard
Whist it is a plain enough place and rarely visited by tourists there are some hidden gems.
Fethard has a number of forgotten medieval ruins set at the back of the village towards the river.
One of theses is a ruined “Templars Castle” , access to which is through the Castle Inn ( a pub ! ).
Other remains of old friaries and Iron Age raths can be found in the surrounding land.
If you want lunch we ate at Lonegans and the home cooked lunch was wonderful.
So….if you are on tours of Ireland and in the Clonmel area travelling to Cashel have a look at Fethard…it is a true hidden gem in Ireland.
