Findochty, Moray

Findochty, Moray

A true hidden gem on any tours of Scotland!

Small, quiet, with beautiful painted cottages/houses, it’s a great stop on any tours.

The village has been there since 1716.

Take a look at the harbour and the lobster fishing boats.

On the land behind the town is the ruin of Findochty Castle.

This was a rectangular tower house with a small oblong tower attached to the North front.

It was built by Thomas Ord in the 16th century.

The Muir of Findochty has been reclaimed into farmland.

It was the scene of the Battle of the Bauds in 961 AD.

In that battle the Norsemen, under the leadership of Eric of the Bloody Axe, were routed by the Scots.

The Scots were led by King Indolphus, who was killed, and is commemorated by the Kings Cairn.

There is also a decent golf course nearby ay Strathlene.
