Foulis Castle, Ross And Cromarty

Foulis Castle, Ross And Cromarty

This castle was the seat of Clan Munro since the 12th century.

Foulis Castle is definitely worth a visit on any tours of Scotland.

It is certainly a bit of a hidden gem.

The castle is situated near Evanton, in the parish of – Kiltearn, Ross and Cromarty.

Foulis is an eye catching whitewashed mansion.

The building incorporates an old tower house complete with gun loops.

The original 12th century castle was destroyed by fire, and the present building dates from 1754.

The new building contains, within the attractive Georgian structure, the remains of a much earlier defensive keep.

The Georgian front features a fine double entrance stair leading to a doorway formed from a first-floor window.

It is a very interesting place.
