Foxford , County Mayo

Foxford , County Mayo

Situated on the River Moy with views of the Ox mountains to the North East. The Providence Woollen Mills , where the famous Foxford rugs are made , was founded in 1892 by Agnes Morrogh Bernard to stop emigration from the area. Though some of the products have changed the mill still operates today , albeit under a new name.

Admiral William Brown , who became leader of the Argentinian Navy , is the town’s most famous son. He is commemorated by a bronze bust , completed in 1957 by Argentinian sculptor Vergotinni.

Foxford is a real hidden gem and is a must see of your tours of Ireland.
