Gourock, Renfrewshire

This little town is situated on the Firth of Clyde, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

It is an interesting stop on any tours of Scotland.

Gourock is what would be considered a hidden gem, off the main tourist trails.

There was a castle here from 1494, and a later one from 1747.

Sadly, and controversially, both were demolished.

But there is one very interesting sight.

On the cliff side of Gourock is “Granny Kempocks Stone”.

This is a monolith of grey schist which is six feet high.

It is of prehistoric origin.

Over the years it has been considered with superstitious awe by fishermen.

Even couples intending to get married would circle the stone in order to get Granny’s Blessing.

There are also the nearby ruins of Levan Castle to see.
