Grey Abbey, County Down

Grey Abbey, County Down

Grey Abbey - Ards
This ruined Abbey is in Northern Ireland.

It is close to the beautiful village of Grey Abbey.

That village alone is well worth visiting on any tours of Ireland.

The Abbey dates back to Norman times when they held this part of County Down.

It was founded by the wife of Sir John de Courcy in 1153.

Although destroyed in 1572.

But in the 17th Century it was re-roofed by the Montgomery family.

Grey Abbey is remarkable for its beauty and size.

The great windows and very elaborate West door date back to 1250.

At Ireland and Scotland Luxury Tours we try to show the hidden gems of Ireland to our clients.

This is the way to see the real Ireland.
