Halkirk, Caithness

This is a great wee village in Caithness, Scotland.

Halkirk is a true hidden gem on any tours of Scotland.

It is a later community, planned by Sir John Sinclair, in the last decade of the 18th century.

There is splendid fishing in the area based around the Thurso River.

In addition, Calder Loch, Loch Scarmclett, and Loch Watten are good for angling also.

What really makes Halkirk interesting for us is the prehistoric remains all around the village.

There are long stone rows and more.

Brawl Castle is also worth seeing.

The older part dates from the 14th century.

Whilst it lies in ruins it is very interesting.
