Roscrea , County Tipperary

A road passes between the remains of an Augustinian monastery , built in 1100. On one side is a round tower , capless since 1135 and missing 20ft since 1798 when a cannon mounted there backfired.

On the far side of the road are the remains of the priory , used as an entrance to the early 19th century Church of St. Cronan. In the town centre is a 13th century castle gate and curtain wall , and inside is he lovely Queen Anne-style Damer House , which is now a heritage centre. This is a great spot for those interested in Ireland castle vacations.

Roscrea has some must see attractions that make it worth a visit on your tours of Ireland.
