The Killarney Lakes, County Kerry

The world famous Lakes of Killarney are in County Kerry, Ireland.

In my opinion they are a must see on any tours of Ireland.

The scenery is simply stunning with many vantage points to view incredible vistas.

There are three lakes to see.

They are the Upper Lake, the Middle Lake (also known as Muckross Lake), and the Lower Lake (also known as Lough Leane).

The Upper and Middle Lakes are connected by a tortuous stream, ending in the rapids under the Old Weir Bridge.

The lakes are fed by many mountain streams and lie in a valley surrounded by those mountains.

The Lower Lake actually has thirty islands.

The Middle Lake has four islands.

The Upper Lake has eight islands.

So, there is a lot to see in and around the lakes.

It is the Lower Lake that discharges into the Atlantic via the River Laune at Castlemaine Harbour.
