Reginald’s Tower

Waterford, County Waterford

Most of you will recognise Waterford as the home of famous Irish Crystal.

That factory is worth visiting if you are passing on any tours of Ireland.

But there is much more to Waterford!

It is an ancient city of Danish origin, well placed on the River Suir.

It was founded by Sitric around 853 AD.

Its position made it a leading centre for maritime trade.

The Vikings took full advantage.

There is a fantastic Medieval Museum.

At the junction of the Mall with the Quay is Reginald’s Tower.

This was built in 1003 and restored in 1819.

Also worth seeing is the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Barronstrand Street, near the Clock Tower.
