White Island & Boa Island, County Fermanagh

These are two islands situated in Lough Erne, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland

They are well worth visiting on any tours of Ireland.

These two islands are truly hidden gems.

There is an abbey on White Island in whose walls eight small statues are mounted.

They were only discovered in this century and they are difficult to date or identify.

Some think they depict the seven deadly sins. But that does not explain the eighth figure.

Boa Island has the remains of an ancient cemetery.

It can be accessed by a bridge from the mainland.

There are also remarkable carved figures that are as high as gravestones.

They have the same stylistic elements as examples in Germany and in Provence.
